MA and Ph D students take writing workshops together.
The two-year program is designed to provide intensive work in a particular genre plus an advanced overview of literary and cultural studies.
These students finish the course with valuable experience that has real-world applications, along with nationally distributed designs for their portfolios.
Students in both programs who have completed the Ninth Letter courses have gone on to career success in the fields of graphic design and literary publishing, thanks in part to their experience working with Ninth Letter.
In the Creative Writing Program, graduate and undergraduate students in English and Creative Writing have the opportunity to enroll in editing and publishing courses in which they gain hands-on experience in editorial work.
In Art Design, graduate and undergraduate students participate in a Ninth Letter production course, in which the students design a complete issue of the journal under faculty direction.
UIC offers a Ph D in English with creative dissertation and also an MA in English with creative manuscript.
The MA is considered preparation to enter an Ph D program, either in literature or creative writing; or a degree to prepare a writer to enter jobs in publishing, public relations, high school or community college teaching, grant writing, corporate writing, and other communications fields.
Millikin University offers 4 Creative Writing Degree programs. In 2015, 26 students graduated in the study area of Creative Writing with students earning 26 Bachelor's degrees.
